Happy Valley has grown almost entirely as newer construction on hillside terrain above the valley floor, which means two things stack on top of each other: the naturally heavy clay common across this side of the metro, and the subsoil compaction that comes standard with large-scale hillside grading and home-building. The result is lawns that often need aeration sooner and more consistently than an older, flatter neighborhood would.

Large lot sizes are typical here, which means more total lawn area — and more of it on some degree of slope — for a mowing crew to manage per visit. We plan mowing height and pattern with the grade in mind, and treat fall aeration less as a nice-to-have and more as close to a yearly requirement for these newer, compacted hillside lawns.
